Option 1: Featheredge / Closeboard (The Gold Standard)

This is built on-site using vertical boards that overlap (like feathers). It is our most popular choice in Cardiff for rear gardens.

• Strength: It creates a continuous, solid barrier with no gaps. Extremely strong against high winds.
• Flexibility: Because it is built from scratch, it can easily follow the slope of uneven ground without "stepping" like panels do.
• Security: Hard to climb and offers complete privacy.

Option 2: Panel Fencing (Budget & Speed)

Pre-made panels (Lap Panels) slot into posts. This is a cost-effective option and quick to install.

• Cost: Generally cheaper than featheredge.
• Maintenance: If a panel breaks in a storm, you can simply lift it out and slide a new one in.
• Cons: Not as strong as featheredge and can rattle in high winds if not secured properly.

The Big Question: Concrete or Wood Posts?

Concrete Posts

Pros: They will likely outlive you. They don't rot, they don't snap in the wind, and they keep fencing off the damp ground (if using gravel boards).

Cons: More industrial look, heavier to install.

Wooden Posts

Pros: Natural look that blends into the garden. Essential for Featheredge fencing to nail the rails to.

Cons: Even treated timber will eventually rot at the ground level (usually after 10-15 years).
